OVG Real Estate recently won the prestigious Sustainable Leadership Award for The Edge, the most sustainable office building in the world according to the BREEAM-NL standard. Tauw supported OVG Real Estate with, amongst other things, preparations of the BREEAM-NL substantiation.
The Sustainable Leadership Award is a global prize awarded each year to environmentally-friendly, energy-efficient and socially responsible real estate projects.
In order to classify the sustainability of a building and its environment, the most commonly used sustainability benchmark in the Netherlands is BREEAM-NL.
OVG Real Estate’s office building The Edge, situated on the Amsterdam Zuidas, was rated as ‘Outstanding’. The building has, according to the assessment of the Building Research Establishment (BRE), the global assessor of sustainable buildings, achieved the highest score ever issued for new buildings.
Prior to the construction of The Edge, Tauw prepared the BREEAM-NL substantiation for land use and ecology (LE 1, 3, 4 and 6) and POL 5 and provided ecological supervision (for LE 3 and 4) during construction. We verified that the Flora and Fauna Act was not violated and devised measures - which we checked after implementation - for the benefit of plants and animals, including a green façade, oak columns with holes for bees, and nest boxes for house sparrows and swifts.
