Tauw Group B.V. achieved good financial results in 2018, as was also the case in 2016 and 2017. We reported a 9% increase in turnover, from 118 million euros to 129 million euros. The year 2018 was marked by two changes. Henrike Branderhorst and Ralph van Roessel succeeded Annemieke Nijhof as the management team of Tauw Group. In addition, a new brand was launched: Syntraal. Syntraal is an independent entity for technical interim staff. Our engineering office is celebrating its 90th anniversary this year.
The new management team presented an agenda for Tauw Group B.V. to become one of Europe’s leading environmental consultancy companies. The coming years will be characterised by sustainable profitability, digital transformation and becoming an even stronger and more adaptive organization. Branderhorst on 2019: “Our focus for all European entities will be on improving our position on soil and environment-related issues in both the public and the private sector. In addition, data collection and enrichment and achieving our ambitions in the field of sustainability are set to play key roles in our future provision of services.”
Although its foreign group companies contributed significantly towards the company’s profitability, the Dutch part of Tauw Group B.V. accounted for the largest part of the 9% turnover growth in 2018. The added value increased by 8% from 93.7 million euros in 2017 to 101.1 million euros in 2018. The gross result was 5.3 million euros. The Dutch group companies contributed 3.4 million euros to this result and the foreign group companies contributed 1.9 million euros. The gross result in the Netherlands increased by more than 74%. In the 2018 financial year, all foreign group companies and all business units in the Netherlands achieved a positive result. The Netherlands, Germany, France and Italy saw a considerable improvement in their results. The net result increased from 3.0 million euros in 2017 to 3.8 million euros in 2018.
Established in 1928, in 2017 we opted for a unique form of employee participation, which makes the employees co-owner of the company with influence on strategic decisions of Tauw. But that’s not all. Branderhorst: “We are part of a success story that started 90 years ago. However, to prepare ourselves for the next chapter we need to evolve into a company in which every professional willing to contribute to our ambitions can have the dream job that he or she longs for. Diversity and inclusion will be the essential to becoming the employer of choice we want to be. That is why our internal focus extends to those two values.”
2018 has been a year of exploring and realising alternative business propositions. By launching Syntraal as an independent subsidiary, Tauw highlights its focus on interim activities and demonstrates that it takes labour market flexibility seriously, while maintaining high employment practice standards. By adopting a position as business developer, services that are traditionally viewed as consultancy proposals are being transformed into products that combine specialised consultancy with new technologies. This is a logical development, given the company’s ambition of digital transformation, which is certain to play a major role in its business development activities for 2019 and beyond.
