The Hagedorn Group is an all-round service provider in the construction industry, operating primarily throughout Germany, but also internationally. The company is actively involved in various sectors, including underground infrastructure, demolition services, waste processing, heavy-duty vehicles, and digitalization, with a significant focus on brownfield revitalization work. As a large organization, Hagedorn recognizes the critical importance of sustainability reporting under the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD). To navigate the complexities of this compliance requirement effectively, Hagedorn sought TAUW as a knowledgeable partner to guide them through the CSRD reporting process, ensuring that they not only meet regulatory obligations but also enhance their commitment to sustainable practices across all subsidiaries.
Hagedorn operates in a sector that is often perceived as having a limited commitment to sustainability. This presents significant societal challenges as the company seeks to transform its operations and align with modern sustainability standards. The construction industry, historically associated with high environmental impact, faces public scrutiny and increasing regulatory pressures to adopt sustainable practices.
In this context, Hagedorn is aspiring to be a front-runner in sustainable practices within the industry. The challenge lies in overcoming entrenched practices and perspectives, as well as addressing the diverse needs of its subsidiaries, which operate in sectors ranging from waste-processing to underground infrastructure.
TAUW's expertise was crucial in this transformation journey, guiding Hagedorn through these societal challenges and implementing effective sustainability strategies. By doing so, Hagedorn is not only able to comply with sustainability reporting requirements but also emerges as a leader in sustainability within the construction sector, demonstrating that it is possible to harmonize operational demands with ecological considerations and driving meaningful change in the industry.
To effectively address the sustainability challenges facing Hagedorn, it was essential to gain a comprehensive understanding of the unique issues faced by each subsidiary. To achieve this, we organized a series of meetings and workshops with representatives from all subsidiaries, ensuring that all CSRD requirements were covered and conducting a thorough double materiality assessment.
Through this assessment, several key risks were identified, including the impacts of climate change, pollution, the changing workforce as well as their health and safety. However, the assessment also unveiled significant opportunities. Hagedorn's substantial presence in the construction sector, particularly in brownfield revitalization, enables the company to implement circular economy practices effectively.
Hagedorn is committed to surpassing the minimum requirements for CSRD compliance. With TAUW's support, the company has developed a robust ESG strategy that positions Hagedorn at the forefront of sustainable construction management. We assisted in defining key ESG pillars, including Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) for employees, circular economy initiatives for brownfields, and governance frameworks to ensure social responsibility.
Furthermore, TAUW provided guidance on EU Taxonomy eligibility and offered recommendations on how to achieve Taxonomy Alignment, ensuring that Hagedorn not only meets regulatory expectations but also champions sustainable practices in the construction sector.
The construction sector offers numerous opportunities to advance sustainability, and Hagedorn is part of this transformation. With TAUW's support, Hagedorn has successfully structured its policies and developed a comprehensive strategy that furthers the company's sustainable construction practices.
Hagedorn's commitment to sustainability not only contributes positively to the environment but also prioritizes the health and safety of its employees. By embracing innovative approaches and responsible practices, Hagedorn is setting a benchmark for others in the industry, demonstrating that sustainable construction is not just a possibility but a viable pathway for future growth and success.
TAUW fostered a collaborative partnership with Hagedorn by engaging closely with multiple representatives across the organization. A designated group contact served as the main liaison for all Hagedorn representatives, which significantly streamlined communication. This effective coordination facilitated a smooth and efficient process, ensuring that all stakeholders were aligned and informed throughout the sustainability transformation journey.
"Hagedorn proved to be an exceptional partner on our CSRD project. Their motivated team and forward-looking perspective seamlessly aligned with TAUW's values, fostering a collaborative environment that yielded impactful results." — Rebecca Käss, Project Coordinator TAUW Germany.
