Challenge

TAUW was commissioned by The European Candy Group B.V. (TECG), also referred to as Continental Candy Industries (CCI), to perform a Phase I Environmental Due Diligence assessment for four confectionery production sites in the Netherlands and Germany.

TECG has production sites in Drachten, Oosterwolde and Hoorn in the Netherlands and in Metelen, Germany. Together, these sites manufacture a broad range of confectionery products, including wine gums, liquorice, hard candy, jellybeans and jellies.

Solutions

For the Phase I EDD assessment, TAUW combined document reviews, site visits and interviews with key staff to assess the key environmental risks across all four sites. Our multidisciplinary team evaluated the findings across a broad range of environmental topics and against the agreed materiality threshold, providing a clear and practical overview of environmental compliance and liabilities. The reporting was tailored to support both transaction decision-making and the needs of an industrial buyer seeking to understand the environmental aspects of the business and its sites.

Impact

The EDD assessment provided TECG and the transaction stakeholders with a structured overview of environmental risks and considerations across the four sites.

The findings supported prospective bidders and financiers in evaluating the environmental position of the business and the contemplated transaction. Following the acquisition, CCI became part of Orkla Snacks, providing a strong platform for future growth and expanding Orkla’s confectionery presence across Europe.

Partnership

Both CCI and Bencis expressed their satisfaction on our support, which is expressed in the following quote from Bencis:

“We have been working with TAUW for many years, and this project was once again a very positive experience. They completed their work within a short timeframe in a highly professional and efficient manner and provided valuable support on the EDD-related aspects of this transaction”
