This client is a prominent Italian energy and utilities company that focuses on the energy transition and circular economy. The company owns an oil-fired power plant in the south of Italy which it aims to transform into a new renewable energy industrial site. TAUW has been engaged to navigate the complex process of obtaining all necessary permits for this transformation.
The client has plans to transform the former site into a sustainable power and waste recycling facility. The new site will feature a , a battery storage facility, a gas-fired peaker power plant, and two waste recycling plants—one designed to treat organic waste for bio-methane production and the other dedicated to plastic recovery.
To implement this ambitious project, the client must submit a comprehensive array of licenses and permits. The permitting procedures are complex and time-consuming due to Italy's bureaucratic landscape. Furthermore, Italian authorities consider the interests of local stakeholders. Therefore, it is crucial to provide accurate substantiation and supporting studies in the permit applications submitted to the authorities.
TAUW boasts a solid background and extensive experience in permitting procedures. Our in-house expertise allows us to manage the entire process effectively. We are well-versed in the roadmap for obtaining various permits and have access to subject-matter experts, both internally and within our network, to conduct the necessary studies for each application.
We have identified the range of permits required for the client to establish the new site and have conducted the surveys and studies needed for each permit. Our familiarity with the procedures enables us to expedite the permitting process significantly. As engineers, we comprehend the technical documentation thoroughly, ensuring that we prepare all necessary materials and meet the minimum requirements. By overseeing the entire permitting process, we have been able to accelerate it considerably.
The permitting procedure is often a time-consuming and costly process. Our expertise in this area has enabled the client to navigate this complex procedure more efficiently. With the sustainable power and waste recycling plant set to become operational sooner rather than later, the client is making significant progress toward the country’s goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2050.
