CARBONAS (CARBON footprint Assessment of Soil works) is an English-written calculation tool to determine the carbon footprint of soil & groundwater remediation and other soil works. The carbon footprint is an important parameter for the environmental impact of intended soil works, needed for the assessment of alternatives and quantification in environmental reporting. CARBONAS takes into account transport, soil handling (incl. off-site purification), groundwater treatment, drilling techniques, piping material, sheet piles, chemical additives, in situ remediation techniques and chemical and biological processes.

The climate goals are clear. In 2030 the EU needs to reduce 55% greenhouse gasses. In 2050 the EU wants to be climate neutral. CARBONAS can contribute. In addition it is part of working according to the international standard ISO 18504 (Sustainable Remediation) and the result can be part of reporting within the framework of the EU CSRD (ESRS E1: Climate Change).
